Crypto market experienced significant losses as they traded in the red
Bitcoin appeared to have lost its momentum after experiencing significant gains earlier this month. However, it managed to maintain its position above the $30,000 mark during Tuesday morning's trading session in Asia. On the other hand, most of the other top 10 non-stablecoin cryptocurrencies experienced a decline after a week of rallies that were fueled by the submission of crypto-related exchange-traded fund (ETF) applications in the United States.
Major Events Around the World
Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange, has withdrawn its license registration in yet another European country. This decision comes as the company faces increasing regulatory challenges from financial regulators around the world. Specifically, Binance's subsidiary, Binance Austria GmbH, has withdrawn its license application from the Austrian financial regulator FMA, as confirmed by sources familiar with the matter.
US Representative Maxine Waters has reached out to Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Chair Gary Gensler and Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen to gather their perspectives on a legislative proposal aimed at revising the market structure related to digital assets. This move follows the introduction of a draft bill by leaders of the House Financial Services Commission and Agriculture Committee, which seeks to establish a clearer framework and guidelines for the crypto industry. It is worth noting that the SEC Chair has faced criticism from the community for referring to all cryptocurrencies except Bitcoin as securities.
In recent times, retailers in the United States have been targeted by scammers who are sending bomb threats. Major retailers such as Kroger, Target, Walmart, Amazon's Whole Foods Market, and several others have all received these threats. The callers have been demanding ransoms in the form of gift cards, Bitcoin (BTC), or money, and have threatened to detonate bombs if their demands are not met.
