In the last 24 hours, the cryptocurrency markets have experienced a slight correction. Bitcoin, the largest cryptocurrency, returned to negative territory on Tuesday after a weekend rally. It dropped by approximately one percent and fell below the $28,000 threshold. Ethereum, its biggest counterpart, also suffered losses and traded below the $1,900 level. Altcoins followed suit, trading lower and declining in conjunction with the more established tokens in the market
Major Events Around the World
Binance, the world's largest cryptocurrency exchange by trading volume, has recently appointed Richard Teng to oversee all regional markets outside of the United States. This move comes as Binance has been facing regulatory scrutiny from US regulators for some time now. Teng, who joined Binance as CEO of Singapore in August 2021, announced his new position on LinkedIn. Binance has been under constant scrutiny for non-compliance issues from US regulators, and has also faced pressure in other countries. In fact, the exchange recently withdrew from Canada due to the country's tight regulations for crypto trading platforms. Additionally, Australia cancelled Binance's financial services licence last month amid a regulatory probe.
The United States is currently facing a multitude of challenges, including skyrocketing debt, interest rate hikes, inflation, and growing uncertainty in the financial markets. As a result, the once-dominant US dollar is experiencing a decline in prominence. While the US works to regain stability, the BRICS nations (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) are actively seeking alternatives to reduce their reliance on the faltering US dollar.
Recent reports indicate that the Russian authorities have abandoned the notion of creating a national cryptocurrency exchange. Instead, they intend to implement regulations governing the development and operation of such platforms. Anatoly Aksakov, the head of the State Duma committee on the financial market, has confirmed this plan.
